winter plants

It's winter here. Hasn't snowed an incredible amount yet, but has been really cold. Most all of the plants around are warm and cozy underground or have already let their seeds go and turned brown. In the garden a few are hanging on but most won't be seen again until spring. If I ever get serious about self-sufficiency I'll set up good row covers and cold frames so I can grow a lot more.

Collards

Sorrel

Burnet

Clover

Mullein - Year round medicine.

Hi Jason,

You asked over at my blog about the bear-proof birdfeeding system that we set up. I finally found the post where I talked about it a couple of years ago. It's at: http://romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com/2009/01/solitude-on-trails-and-bear-adventures.html

If you have questions, feel free to ask!

I'm amazed that you can find anything green right now. If I look on the south side of boulders right up against them, I can sometimes find a mullein that's still green but that's it!

Those are the usual culprits alive and well in my garden if the ground didn't have a huge layer of snow on it. Maybe also parsley, sorry looking sage, Rumexes and some rossette forming plants. May I just say that I love the video of the bobcat.
